Craft: Drummer Boy Ornaments
So, the last couple of years, I've bought ornaments for my nieces (I've only had two thus far). But I decided my bank account would hate me if I continued that as the number of nieces and nephews grows. ;P We still buy Baby's First Christmas Ornaments and we let each of our kids pick an ornament each year, but I'm starting to make ornaments for each niece and nephew that aren't receiving their first Christmas ornament and my oldest asked if I'd make one for each of them too. So, I started looking for one that wouldn't be too intimidating to me and came across these. I'll list my supply list at the bottom, but now that, short the clothespins, everything else can be bought cheaper at places like Walmart, Joanns, Michaels, etc. It's super simple though and I love that my nieces (and, starting next year, nephew!) are getting something homemade from me. I'm already trying to decide what next year's ornament will be. :)
So, I painted the blue, then the face, then the red and let that dry while I was eating lunch. Seriously, this is such an easy craft. Try to keep lines of paint where you want them, but don't stress excessively over it: you use a Sharpie to make the belt where the red and blue meet and you use yarn or ribbon where the red and flesh-tone meet as your way to hang the ornament. Super easy!
Then, after being well fed and regaining patience with my oldest who desperately wanted to help paint the ornaments, I took my Sharpie to those babies and drew on the belt and face. Then I used hot glue to attach the pom pom "hats" and used the end of a paint brush to make the white "buttons" on the uniform. And that's it! All I have left is to find my yarn to create the hangers, but then I'll be done. Not including waiting/dry time, these maybe took me 10-15 minutes for five. SUPER easy and doable. And now I have my annual homemade ornament tradition started: happy crafting!
