General Conference with Kiddos

Growing up, General Conference meant A LOT of time in front of the tv, trying to stay awake, various snacks, occasionally making blanket forts, etc. When I was really little, we had to go to the church building to watch it and often fell asleep. Now I still try having my kiddos (all under 5) watch at least some of General Conference while I try spending the rest of the time trying to get something out of conference while still seeing to their needs and wants. ;) Luckily for me, people much more creative than I come up with super fun activities for kids to do. Granted, some of these are beyond some or all of my kids' understanding, patience, etc., but they're all equally fun. These are a few favorites that I've found (some of which I'm excited to get some use out of this weekend!). First, there's this packet from Maeser Art me specifically for this year. It has coloring pages, words searches, word scrambles, mazes, etc. There are even pages where you can list the speaker, color their tie, etc. I think some of these would be great as young as a couple years old (as soon as the kiddos show and interest in coloring), but can also last many years later. Then there's this Punch the Point from Brightly Street that I think, depending on how you "punch the point," could be from a few years old (either stamping the circle or coloring) to 8-10 using a single hole punch. You "punch" the topic's circles each time you hear it spoken about. It's a fun way for children to listen and, even if they don't get the message as a whole, they might remember points. I think this is especially great if you have older kids that can answer "what did they talk about today" because you littler kiddos might still be able to participate in that conversation. Then there's this adorable little packet from Somewhat Simple that has a variety of little packets. I love this because it's miniature and I think a lot of children would love to help put this baby together (I know mine would!). If these aren't enough or precisely what you're looking for, A Year of FHE has this compiled list of various activities or printouts to do. And, as always, join us as we watch General Conference over the next two days!
